Special Education Specialist

Diana Saenz is a Special and Bilingual Education professional with over 20 years of experience at the campus, district, and regional levels. Before transitioning to special education, she was a bilingual dual language teacher. In addition to teaching, she worked with curriculum by adapting the general education writing curriculum for students with disabilities. She then pursued a Masters in Bilingual Education with a specialty in Leadership. This gave her the opportunity to become a Bilingual Strategist where she not only helped in the monitoring and evaluation on the implementation of the Bilingual/ESL programs, but in the selection of instructional materials that met the needs of English learners. Her horizon expanded and currently is a Special Education Specialist with the Region One Education Service Center in Edinburg, Texas. Besides providing professional development and technical assistance to regional LEAs, she has worked in collaboration with state Networks and the Texas Education Agency to determine, establish, and maintain state initiatives such as the designing and development of resources on using best practices for students with multiple exceptionalities and multiple needs. Her experiences include either bilingual, low-incidence disabilities, high-incidence disabilities, or all three and have been rewarding, knowledgeable and satisfying.
